Competitors don’t hide their weaknesses.

They broadcast them.

Not in press releases. Not in pitch decks. But in the quiet places; reviews, complaints, hesitation, silence.

If you’re listening.

Most people aren’t.


A weakness isn’t “they’re bad.”

A weakness is a gap between what people expect and what they experience.

That gap is where opportunity lives.


Read the complaints.

Not one. Not two. Patterns.

When ten people say the same thing, it’s no longer noise. It’s signal.

“Too slow.”
“Too confusing.”
“No one answered.”

That’s not feedback. That’s a map.


Use the product.

Walk through it like a new customer. No shortcuts. No assumptions.

Where do you pause?

Where do you get annoyed?

Where do you think, “this shouldn’t be this hard”?

That moment, that friction, is the weakness.


Watch what they talk about.

And what they don’t.

When a company keeps saying “we care about support,” it usually means support is a problem somewhere in the market.

When they never mention speed, or simplicity, or price… it might be because they can’t win there.

Silence is informative.


Look at who leaves.

Switching is a story.

People don’t change products for fun. They change because something broke; trust, value, ease.

Find those stories and you’ll find the fault lines.


Notice the pace.

Are they improving?

Shipping?

Adapting?

Or are they standing still, protecting what used to work?

In fast markets, slow is a weakness.


Here’s the mistake:

Trying to beat competitors at their strengths.

That’s a race you didn’t design.


Better to do this:

Find the gap they’ve normalized.

The thing customers have learned to tolerate.

And refuse to tolerate it.


That’s how small teams beat big ones.

Not by being louder.

By being different where it matters.


Weakness isn’t something you attack.

It’s something you serve.

Fill the gap, and the comparison takes care of itself.
