Keep the Exit Doors Closed
When someone enters checkout, their job is simple: finish the purchase.
Don’t give them ten ways to leave.
A big navigation menu, random promo links, a tempting search bar, account detours, homepage shortcuts—these are all exit doors.
And checkout is the last place to open them.
This doesn’t mean making people feel trapped. It means protecting focus.
Reduce the noise. Strip the distractions. Keep the path clean and obvious.
If customers need help, make that available. But don’t surround the payment flow with unrelated options.
Every extra link introduces another decision. Every extra decision creates another chance to drift away.
A focused checkout is a safer checkout.
